Job Mission 🚀

As a Backend Engineer at Tibber, you’ll play a key role in powering Tibber’s integrations with the German energy market — a critical enabler for helping households use energy smarter and greener. You’ll design and operate services that process millions of market transactions reliably and at scale, ensuring Tibber stays compliant and competitive in one of Europe’s most dynamic energy markets by combining solid engineering practices with a deep understanding of its ecosystem, practices, and workflows. Your work will directly support our mission to make sustainable energy usage effortless for our users.

What you'll do ✅

• Collaborate in a small, close-knit backend team — working daily with your Product Manager as part of the team — and partner cross-functionally when needed to evolve integration capabilities and tackle complex data flows.
  

• Implement and maintain EDIFACT message flows (e.g. UTILMD, MSCONS, INVOIC) in line with BDEW specifications, analyzing updates and implementing required changes to ensure compliance and optimize workflows for performance, conversion, and reliability.
  

• Build and scale backend services that process millions of transactions in the German energy market, using a modern stack (dotnet, TypeScript, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS, Postgres) in a microservices architecture.
  

• Take full operational ownership of the services you build — from monitoring and incident management to continuous improvement.

• Shape Tibber’s technical direction by contributing to architecture discussions and long-term decisions that strengthen our position in the German market.
  

What we're looking for⚡

A skilled backend engineer with experience designing and running large-scale distributed systems. You are:

• Fluent in German and English , comfortable navigating both technical and regulatory discussions.

• Based in Berlin (or willing to relocate) and ready to work closely with our local market experts.

• Excited — or at least curious — to dive deep into the German energy market and master its EDI/BDEW standards.

• A proactive, self-driven problem-solver who thrives with autonomy, communicates transparently, and collaborates constructively across teams.

Bonus points if you have experience with EDIFACT/BDEW messaging, the energy sector, or other highly regulated/high-volume transactional systems (e.g., finance, telecom).
