The Banking Foundation Area at Shine

Banking Foundation is the platform every other product team at Shine builds on. If it breaks, everything breaks. Four teams sit in the area:

Ledger builds and operates the core ledger: customer and internal accounts, transaction posting, the multi-currency framework, account-number generation. This is where financial correctness is guaranteed.

Payment Rails builds and operates our integration to external payment rails: provider integrations, payment orchestration, reconciliation, and international payments.

Financial Integrity & Operations makes sure every transaction is accurately captured, reconciled and reported. Data pipelines between core banking and treasury, accounting and reporting. Daily and monthly reconciliation. Regulatory reporting such as FICOBA in France and the Bank Data Retrieval Portal in the Netherlands.

Banking Enablement gives the rest of the banking organisation the shared capabilities and tooling it needs to ship without rebuilding the same thing four times.

We run banking in France under Shine, in Germany under Kontist, and we are building the Netherlands and Denmark. Every new market, every new payment type and every regulatory change lands in this area first. So does the capacity question: when Cards, Money Movement or Lending want to ship something, the sequencing decision usually sits here.

The area is in the middle of the largest build in its history. We are Building a new platform to be scaled across Europe, starting with Netherlands and Denmark. The decisions made here over the next 18 months set how hard the fifth market will be.

Your role as a Product Director, Banking Foundation

You own Banking Foundation. You report to the SVP of Banking Product and you sit in the banking product leadership team.

Your job is to decide what the platform should be able to do in 12 to 24 months, get the four teams building toward it, and be accountable for the outcome. That means owning the strategy and the multi-quarter plan, managing and growing the PMs in the area, and making the trade-off calls when three customer-facing teams all need ledger capacity in the same quarter.

For the first period you also sit as PM in the Payment Rails team. Ledger and Payment Rails currently share a single PM across two platform domains, and we want you close enough to the work to form your own view of the platform before you start reshaping it. We expect to hand Payment Rails to a dedicated PM as the area grows, and you will run that hiring.

This is a hands-on leadership role in infrastructure. You should want both halves of it.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Own the Banking Foundation roadmap end to end. Ledger, Payment Rails, Financial Integrity & Operations and Banking Enablement. Set the OKRs for the area, connect them to the banking tribe objectives, and balance the market launches in front of you against the platform bets that decide whether the fifth market is easier than the fourth.

• Lead and develop your product teams. Support and challenge your PMs and engineering leads. Own hiring, performance and growth in the area, and set the bar for outcome-focused discovery and delivery.

• Run Payment Rails as PM in the first period. Ledger and Payment Rails share one PM today. You take Payment Rails directly, work with the EM and the team, and hire your successor as the area grows.

• Sequence platform capacity across the bank. Cards, Money Movement, Lending and Compliance all depend on you. You decide what gets built when, you defend those decisions to the other pillar leads, and you bring the trade-offs, risks and resourcing asks to banking and P&T leadership.

• Shape the platform architecture with engineering. Build versus buy, provider selection, and how the ledger and the rails serve four markets without four implementations.

• Deliver Denmark and the Netherlands from the platform side. Together with Strategic Providers & Projects, Banking Operations and Compliance.

• Track what matters. Ledger correctness, reconciliation breaks, payment success and settlement times, platform availability, and how long it takes another team to ship something on your platform.

3 days in office, travel a couple days a month to paris for "tribe days"

About you

• 6+ years in product, with several years on payments, core banking or financial infrastructure. You have shipped things where being wrong costs money.

• You have managed product managers, not only projects. You have hired at least one.

• You are comfortable in a technical conversation about double-entry ledgers, settlement, reconciliation, SEPA and SWIFT, and you can hold your own with a staff engineer on a design decision.

• You have worked inside a regulated environment and treat compliance as part of the product, not as a blocker.

• You make decisions with incomplete data and say what your confidence level actually is.

• You hold the tension between shipping the next market and building for the one after it, and you make that trade-off deliberately rather than defaulting to one side.

• You are AI-fluent. You use AI tooling in your own work, and you have a view on where it changes what banking infrastructure should do: reconciliation, anomaly detection, operational tooling.

• You are fluent in both written and spoken English
