The Role

We’re looking for an experienced and energetic Engineering Manager with a strong hands-on background in Java development to join our Product & Engineering team in Berlin.

In this role, you’ll lead a cross-functional squad of talented Java and JavaScript engineers, helping them grow into a high-performing, self-organised team. While you’ll focus on delivery, technical expertise and active contribution to coding in Java and Spring Boot, your leadership and coaching will be key to your success.

You’ll play a central part in defining how we build, deliver, and scale our products — setting the tone for technical excellence and an empowering engineering culture.

• Lead a cross-functional Squad of Java and JavaScript Engineers, helping them to become self-organised, agile and autonomous


• Be responsible for the people within the Squad as well as for the delivery


• Contribute hands-on to development, especially in Java and Spring Boot, while guiding architectural and technical decisions


• Define objectives, track the progress and support every Engineer in achieving them


• Coach and mentor the Engineers by providing regular feedback


• Establish a vital Engineering culture


• Collaborate closely with other Engineering Managers, Senior Product Leadership, the CTO, and the Founders

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead or similar leadership role with direct people responsibility.


• A strong background as a Software Engineer — ideally 5+ years of hands-on experience in Java , Spring Boot , and related technologies.


• Proven ability to design and build scalable, high-quality software systems.


• Solid understanding of relational databases and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka).


• Experience with JavaScript (React.js, Angular, or similar) is a plus.


• A hands-on leader who enjoys contributing to the codebase and solving complex technical challenges alongside your team.


• Empathetic leadership style — able to inspire, coach, and empower others.


• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a structured and business-oriented mindset.


• Experience working in agile, fast-paced, cross-functional environments.


• Fluency in English (our working language).
