Senior Data Scientist - (Query Intelligence, Global Discovery)

We are on the lookout for a Senior Data Scientist to join the Global Search tribe on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences.

Your mission:

• Advance Query Intelligence with AI: You will research, develop, and optimize advanced LLMs, with a specific focus on fine-tuning and Agentic AI to solidify and scale our query understanding services.
• Architect Autonomous Agents: Design and implement agentic reasoning patterns (e.g., ReAct, Chain-of-Thought) and multi-agent orchestration to solve complex, ambiguous search problems.
• Optimize via Fine-Tuning & Distillation: Lead the lifecycle of specialized models by applying PEFT (LoRA/QLoRA), supervised fine-tuning, and model distillation to create high-performance, low-latency solutions for production.
• Lead Innovation: Identify and apply the SOTA methods to solve complex problems in high-complexity environments. You will take ownership of the full data science lifecycle—from ideation and fine-tuning to production.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work as part of a global, cross-functional team, collaborating closely with product managers, analysts, backend engineers, and data engineers to drive end-to-end solutions. Your partnership will be crucial in translating business challenges into impactful data science projects that solve our customers' problems and meet our OKRs.
• Extract Actionable Insights: Analyze and interpret large, complex datasets to uncover meaningful insights into search relevance challenges. You'll effectively communicate these findings to stakeholders, influencing strategy and product direction across different brands and platforms.
• Experiment and Lead Innovation: You'll take ownership of the full data science lifecycle, from ideation to production, ensuring solutions are scalable and effective. You'll also explore and leverage cutting-edge technologies like LLMs and Agentic AI to accelerate innovation and streamline our processes.
• Master Ambiguity: Take a leading role in tackling ambiguous business problems. You will translate these challenges into well-defined data science projects with clear objectives, and confidently navigate uncertainty to deliver tangible results.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics) or equivalent professional background. Proven track record as a Data Scientist solving complex business problems through the application of advanced scientific methodologies.
• Deep, hands-on experience building Agentic workflows, including tool-use (function calling), autonomous planning, and orchestration frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or AutoGen.
• Proven track record in LLM fine-tuning (SFT, RLHF/DPO) and distillation techniques to optimize "teacher" models into efficient "student" models for scale.
• Essential proficiency in Python (and its ML ecosystem) and SQL. Experience with Cloud environments (GCP/AWS) and MLOps tools (e.g., MLFlow, Metaflow) is required.
• Hands-on experience with search machine learning algorithms is highly valued. This includes but not limited to: query understanding, classification, expansions, personalization and search results evaluation. You should have a foundational understanding of the search funnel and its components.
• You navigate ambiguity to define clear data science solutions and deliver scalable results in fast-paced environments. Beyond modeling, you proactively use AI-assisted tools (e.g., Gemini, Cloud Code) to accelerate your research, your coding workflow, automate boilerplate, and increase your overall engineering velocity.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively in global, cross-functional teams. You have excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas, influence stakeholders at all levels, and contribute significantly to shared projects and goals. You're open-minded and eager to learn from and mentor others.
