Your Department & Manager: Finance & Administration, reporting to the Head of Unit Project Finance & Accounting

The Junior Accountant supports day-to-day accounting, with a focus on accounts payable, employee expenses and corporate credit cards. The role ensures transactions are accurate, timely and supported by complete documentation and a clear audit trail.

• Process supplier invoices and accounts payable transactions accurately and on time, with correct coding, allocation, VAT treatment and approvals.
• Verify supporting documents before posting or payment, ensuring invoices, receipts, approvals, contracts and procurement evidence are complete and compliant; follow up missing items.
• Process employee expense claims, checking receipts, business purpose, per diem calculations, insurance, coding, compliance and approvals.
• Process credit card transactions, checking supporting documents, allocation and approval; promptly follow up missing receipts.
• Support the preparation of payment runs, verify payment details, reconcile vendor accounts and identify duplicate or incorrect payments.
• Maintain complete, audit-ready records and support reconciliations, and other routine accounting tasks.

Your knowledge, experience & skills

• Relevant qualification or training in Accounting, Finance or a related field; 1–2 years of practical experience is desirable.
• Basic knowledge of bookkeeping, accounts payable, VAT and invoice requirements; non-profit or donor experience is advantageous.
• Excellent attention to detail and high standards for complete, accurate supporting documentation.
• Familiarity with DATEV, virtual credit card systems or similar tools and Excel; organised, methodical and deadline-conscious.
• Good communication skills in English and German; reliable, collaborative and comfortable following up missing or incorrect documentation.
