Role: Lead Business Analyst/Functional Solution Architect, Utilities

Location: Germany

Work setting: Remote (3-4days onsite/month when needed)

Job Overview

We're seeking a Lead Business Analyst or Functional Solution Architect with deep expertise in the electric or gas utilities domain . The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions, leading the analysis, design, and implementation of complex enterprise systems. Experience with Field Service Management (FSM) systems is highly preferred. This role requires a strong understanding of utility business processes, regulatory requirements, and the technical landscape to deliver innovative and effective solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead Business Analysis: Conduct and lead business process analysis, requirements gathering, and solution design workshops with key stakeholders across the utility organization (e.g., operations, engineering, customer service, and IT).
• Solution Design: Translate complex business requirements into detailed functional specifications, system architecture designs, and solution blueprints. Act as the primary liaison between business teams and development/implementation teams.
• Domain Expertise: Apply in-depth knowledge of utility operations, including but not limited to, meter-to-cash processes, asset management, grid operations, customer information systems (CIS), and specifically, field service management.
• Project Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept and analysis through testing, deployment, and post-go-live support. Ensure solutions are aligned with strategic business goals and technical standards.
• System Integration: Define and document integration points between various utility systems (e.g., FSM, GIS, ERP, and AMI).
• Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships and expectations with senior-level business stakeholders, ensuring their needs are met and they are actively engaged in the solution design process.

Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Solution Architect, or in a similar role, with at least 3 years focused on the electric or gas utility domain .
• Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of utility business processes, including:
• Field Service Management (FSM): Experience with FSM platforms like SAP Service Cloud, Salesforce Field Service, or Oracle Field Service is a significant plus.
• Metering and Billing: In-depth knowledge of meter-to-cash processes and smart grid technologies (AMI).
• Asset Management: Familiarity with managing utility assets like poles, wires, pipes, and transformers.
• Technical Skills: Proven ability to define and document complex functional and non-functional requirements. Experience with agile and waterfall methodologies.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. A demonstrated ability to lead and influence without direct authority.
• Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Business Administration, or Computer Science. A master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA) are a plus.
