Mandatory internship in the field of machining

In the Manufacturing Technologies department, which is part of the Production Systems division, we work on the development, provision and adaptation of production and manufacturing technologies for the manufacture of innovative products. We develop new machines and processing strategies on behalf of customers, optimize existing production systems and implement future-oriented tool concepts. Our core areas of expertise are machining technology, fine machining, cleaning and blasting processes, additive manufacturing as well as production and machine measurement technology.

What you will do

As part of the mandatory internship, you can be assigned to various areas of manufacturing technology. You will provide support in the areas of mechanical processing, in particular preparation and processing with CNC machine tools, and thus gain initial experience in industry-related research. You will work on current research and development projects and support the development of new systems and processes. To this end, you will examine the state of the art and the market situation, among other things. You will identify potential suppliers, dimension the required system components, and design them independently.

Other tasks within the scope of the mandatory internship may include:

• Varied work in areas ranging from manufacturing to design and FE simulation to programming
• Working on CNC machine tools
• Planning, setting up, and evaluating test series
• Collaborating on and supporting current research and development projects
• Researching relevant topics and processing the results

What you bring to the table

• studies in mechanical engineering, production engineering, information technology in mechanical engineering, or physical engineering
• Strong team player and able to work independently and responsibly
• Independence, determination, and a cautious and solution-oriented approach to work are your strengths
• Advanced knowledge of manufacturing technology, design engineering, and automation technology
• Experience with CAD/CAM and CNC machine tools is desirable
• Completed vocational training or experience in the field of metal technology, metal cutting, precision engineering, or toolmaking is desirable
• Confident use of MS Office programs
• Confident written and spoken German and English skills

The weekly working time is 39 hours (full-time).

Remuneration is based on the federal guidelines for internship remuneration.

The duration of the thesis depends on the requirements of your university.
