Job Description

The Senior General Ledger Accountant (m/f/d) is the primary driver of the monthly financial close process. This is a hands-on, self-regulated role designed for a technical expert who thrives on independence. You will be responsible for the end-to-end integrity of the General Ledger, ensuring that all financial data is captured, reconciled, and reported accurately and ahead of schedule.

Responsibilities:

1. Financial Reporting & Month-End Close: Manage the month-end and year-end closing calendar to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
2. Journal Entries: Prepare and review complex manual journal entries, including accruals, provisions, deferred expenses and income.
3. Reconciliations: Perform high-level reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
4. Variance Analysis: Perform "Actual vs. Budget" and "Actual vs. Forecast" analysis to identify discrepancies in the P&L.
5. Process improvement: Identifying optimization potential and implementing more efficient workflows in the finance area, with AI first strategy.
6. Project management: Leading or supporting strategic projects in the accounting area, including system migrations or integration projects.
7. Coordination with auditors and external partners: Acting as the liaison with auditors and consultants to ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
8. Reporting: The role reports directly into the 'Senior Manager General Ledger', who leads the General Ledger team within our accounting function.

Qualifications

Technical Skills:

• A degree in Business Administration, Finance, as a chartered accountant or a comparable qualification is a must.
• At least 5 years of experience in accounting, ideally within an international company.
• Strong knowledge of national accounting principles (HGB) and solid understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Strong user skills and experience with SAP ERP are a plus.

Personal Skills:

• Strong analytical and conceptual skill with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• High level of self-responsibility and problem-solving capabilities along accounting processes.
• Excellent communication skills in German and English (minimum C1).
• Interested in transforming accounting processes with Finance-AI (n8n, LLMs).
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
