The Berghof Foundation’s Regional Peace Support Department supports local stakeholders in Central and South Asia by strengthening their individual and collective capacities to create spaces for dialogue and implement nonviolent conflict transformation. In doing so, we engage with initiatives across multiple societal levels and dialogue tracks, fostering collaboration among local and regional actors, and supporting the process of building legitimate and durable infrastructures for peace.

Your responsibilities

Project Manager (all genders) – RPS Department
Overview of the position
Hours: Full-time (39 hours per week)
Starting date: As soon as possible
Duration: Fixed-term 1 year contract
Location: Berlin, Germany
Salary: According to TVöD Bund, pay grade E13
Department & reporting line: Regional Peace Support Department

• Support the conceptual development and strategic design of project activities as well as the team’s overall programmatic approach.
• Plan, organize, coordinate, and implement project activities in close collaboration with the project team and partner organisations in Central and South Asia.
• Maintain regular coordination and communication with local partners and stakeholders operating in fragile and conflict-affected contexts in the wider Central and South Asian region.
• Provide thematic and conceptual guidance to partners and support them in the development, application, and implementation of small grant initiatives.
• Contribute to strengthening local peacebuilding capacities, including support to civil society initiatives and dialogue processes.
• Contribute to the development and strengthening of regional networks with civil society actors, practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders in Central and South Asia.
• Ensure compliance with donor regulations and internal procedures, including diligent documentation of project activities and financial monitoring.
• Coordinate project timelines, deliverables, and milestones in collaboration with the project team and relevant internal units.
• Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes and contribute to the analysis of project outcomes and lessons learned.
• Prepare and draft regular narrative reports and other project documentation for donor(s) in collaboration with the project team.
• Contribute to the preparation of project proposals, concept notes, and fundraising initiatives for follow-up or related projects.
• Facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration between project partners and other relevant stakeholders.
• Represent the project and contribute to networking activities with relevant actors in the peacebuilding community when required.
• Support the organisation of workshops, dialogue events, and consultation processes with partners and stakeholders.
• Conduct background research and contextual analysis relevant to project implementation in the region.
• Contribute to internal coordination and knowledge sharing within the department.
• Undertake occasional travel to project locations in Central and South Asia when required.

Your knowledge, experience & skills

• Master’s degree (accredited universities) in a relevant field such as peace and conflict studies, political science, international relations, or a related discipline.
• 3+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally in project management within the NGO, international cooperation, or peacebuilding sector.
• Knowledge and experience in areas such as civil society support, community dialogues, peace infrastructures, or participatory mechanisms in governance processes.
• Strong intercultural and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with unconventional and demanding conflict actors from different tracks, including high-level individuals.
• Ability to maintain attention to detail under time pressure and to adapt to dynamic and fluid project contexts.
• Experience in grant management and the administration of small grant mechanisms.
• Experience in working directly with local organisations and partners in international contexts.
• Specific experience in project management in third-party funding management and donor compliance requirements.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary and international team.
• Strong organisational and coordination skills as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
